BOWLING

The Forester bowling team competed in the Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic for their second Tier 1 tournament of the season. The tournament format included five traditional team games on Saturday and 20 Baker games on Sunday.

“This was a great tournament because it is one of the largest fields of the season and a chance for the bowling team to see competition we will not see again until USBC Sectionals,” said Coach Shockey.

The HU women finished the weekend in 27th place out of 57 teams with 7,917 pins which included scoring 4,456 on Saturday and 3,461 on Sunday. Freshman Amber Elliott led the team with an individual score of 929 for a five-game average of 185.8 for 76th place individually.

“The team did a good job with communication and playing the lanes and adjustments,” noted Shockey. “We just could not get the breaks or make the shots we needed to have the big games to finish higher in the standings.

“The ladies are in a good position for the postseason. We just need to keep working hard at practices and take advantage of our good breaks at tournaments.”

The Huntington men finished the weekend in 63rd place out of 75 teams with a total score of 7,873. On Saturday, the Foresters posted 4,479 pins and followed up with a score of 3,394 on Sunday. Austin Schultz finished with a 979 (195.8/game) to lead HU and place 96th overall as an individual.

“It was rough weekend for the guys,” said Shockey. “The men have struggled with shot making and spares all year and this weekend we struggled with both. Fortunately, we have two more tournaments to make a run at USBC Sectionals.”

Shockey and crew are back at it this weekend for their fourth and final WHAC Jamboree in Plymouth, Mich.
