Mission Moment

Service, specifically emphasized as part of our University’s mission, is a call to action. Service comes in many forms and is a clear reflection of what Christ did during His time on earth. Service is at the core of what is expected of us, as we are reminded of this throughout Scripture. Our campus verse of the year, 1 Peter 4:10, reads, “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” Forester alumni serve across the globe through missions trips, in the workplace, and around their local communities.

As 2019 turns to 2020, the community that our campus is nestled within saw a proud moment for service in action by the Forester Nation. Forester alumnus Brooks Fetters left office after two terms of tremendous service to the Huntington community. His successor in the mayoral office, Richard Strick, is also an alumnus and has been called to serve our local community. This call to serve is an integrated part of our University values, woven into the fabric of who we are. While other institutions and organizations can take pride in having its members serve in public office, it is a different level and different perspective of service that Foresters bring. With a Christ-centered worldview, Forester alumni are making world-changing impacts. It was a pleasure seeing how God used Mayor Fetters for eights years as he led the Huntington community, and it will be exciting to see how God uses Mayor Strick to lead as well.
