VOLLEYBALL
The HU volleyball team’s season came to an end Saturday night with a 3-0 loss, 25-13, 25-10, 25-16, to 2nd-seeded Marian University in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament. The Foresters, the 7th seed in the tourney, wrap up the year with an overall record of 14-20.
“It’s never easy to see a season come to an end,” said Coach Herber. “However, I am so proud of this team for the growth that’s transpired throughout the season.
“They continued to work hard every single day, and it’s taken us a step in the right direction. I am eager for the years to come.”
Fourteen wins is the most Ws in program history since 2009 when the Foresters went 16-16.
The Knights (30-1), undeniably the hottest team in the league, stretched their win streak to 19 by logging one of their most efficient offensive outings of the season. MU carded a .327 hitting percentage, their second highest percentage of the year, to more than double up their visitors in kills 45-22.
Paige Eakright led Huntington offensively with nine kills. Tya Bynum added six kills while Jennings Tacosik, in addition to handing out 18 assists, finished with three. Ariene Butler and Laura Nagle took charge of the backline to collect 13 and 12 digs respectively.
Tonight marked the last match in Forester green and white for Eakright and classmate Elaine Bredensteiner.
“Words cannot begin to describe what Paige and Elaine have done for this program,” said Herber. “While they may no longer be a part of this roster, they will never cease to be a part of this family.
“God is going to continue to shine His light through them as they enter the teaching and nursing world.”
