The Huntington golf program wrapped up the fall portion of their schedule by hosting the Shootout at Sultan’s Run where both teams finished eighth.

On the men’s side, the weekend saw the Foresters turn in a 682 (343-339) behind Logan De Maa’s 161 (80-81) good for 17th out of 44 golfers. Otto Bjartmarz posted aa 170 (81-89) to finish 28th. “I’m proud of these guys,” said Coach Sholund. “They have worked hard this fall and have learned a lot. I believe in them and am excited to see them work hard in the offseason. The effort and focus they are learning to put forth will pay off.

“They are a close group and that’s exciting to travel with. We now move into offseason with a set of goals and a vision for the spring.”

Marian topped the team leader board with a 616 followed by Midway (620), Spring Arbor (638), Asbury (639), Indiana Tech (654), Mount Vernon (671), Brescia (672) and HU (682).

Betsy Schroeder topped Sholund’s women’s crew by firing a 172 (81-91) to claim 14th out of 46 golfers. Alexandria Maris finished two strokes back at 174 (88-86) for 17th place. Rachel Blauert posted a 181 (93-88) while Katie Springer shot a 196 (102-94). Lexy Turpchinoff rounded out Huntington’s scores with a 214 (107-107).

“Betsy has put herself in a good position all fall and Sultan’s Run was no exception,” noted Sholund.” This was a very challenging course and she managed it well. I look forward to her spring half. She should be gaining a lot of confidence.”

He was also pleased with the rest of the team and the direction they’re heading. “We had several second rounds lower than the first which is a goal for us at each event. We have an offseason to work on our plan to be ready for spring and I’m excited to see them improve.

“Our REND environment is strong and they are all committed to improving and learning which is fun to coach.”

Indiana Wesleyan took home the women’s title with a 652 followed by Asbury (700), Mount Vernon (705), Midway (710), Spring Arbor (713), IU Kokomo (716), Marian (717), HU (723) and Brescia (749).
