VOLLEYBALL

It was a long trip home for the HU volleyball team after being swept by Mount Vernon, 25-15, 25-18, 25-17, Tuesday night at Ariel Arena. With only three regular season games remaining, Huntington’s record currently stands at 14-16 overall, 6-9 in league play.

The Cougars (22-8, 9-6) have enjoyed blanking opponents all year and on this given night, the visiting Foresters were their tenth victim to be on the wrong side of a 3-0 decision. MVNU jumped on an early lead and never looked back while Herber and crew struggled to get much going all evening.

“We did not step on the floor ready to play tonight,” noted Coach Herber. “Picking up tips and bringing vocal energy every point is something we have intentionally worked on, and we did not execute tonight.”

While the Foresters committed just one service error for the match, a new season-low, their offense was another story as evidenced by a hitting percentage that was in the red.

Lindsay Ingenito paced HU with eight kills and proved the most efficient with her .263 hitting percentage. Paige Eakright added seven kills while Tya Bynum posted six. Jennings Tacosik dealt out 26 assists and tracked down 13 digs for her team’s only double double. Ariene Butler collected a team-best 19 digs and Eakright registered 12.

“This team is much better than they showed tonight,” said Herber. “Frustration does not stem from us not being a talented or skilled team because we are. It stems from not playing to the highest level we are capable of.

“We have a day of rest tomorrow and then we will work hard in the practices that lie ahead that way coming out flat does not happen again.”

Huntington has over a week’s break before hosting Marian on October 30 at 7:00 p.m.
