VOLLEYBALL
The Huntington volleyball team upped its win streak to three Wednesday night in Platt Arena by trumping Bethel for the second time this season. Just like three weeks prior, HU needed four sets to dispose of their Crossroads League foe, 22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-22.
The W is the Foresters’ fourth straight over the Pilots as Herber and company improve to 12-10 on the year, 5-6 in league play. With seven CL matches remaining, Huntington is currently seventh in the regular season standings, one game behind sixth-seeded Taylor and two games behind Grace and Saint Francis who are tied for fourth with 7-4 league records.
“Beating a team twice in conference play is harder than people may think,” noted Coach Herber. “I’m proud of the way we’ve beaten Goshen and Bethel to begin the second round of conference.”
Paige Eakright posted a match-high 17 kills as one of three Foresters to rack up double digit kills. Brandy Michie kept the visitors guessing with her placement of the ball to lay claim to a season-tying 14 kills while Lindsay Ingenito added ten.
As is the norm, Jennings Tacosik contributed in a variety of ways which included ending the match with one of her four kills. The 5-9 setter also dished out 47 dimes and tracked down nine digs. Ariene Butler trolled the backline to pick up 29 digs while Eakright added 16 for her team’s only double double of the evening.
Herber continues to be encouraged by her team’s ability to fine-tune play during a match. “Our girls did a great job of making adjustments tonight. We needed to improve picking up soft shots and playing off-blocker defense. As soon as we discussed it in a timeout, our girls came out and took care of business.”
The Foresters take a break from league play this weekend to compete in the Grand View University Invitational.
