Mission Moment

When you hear the word “homecoming,” a myriad of visions, emotions, and memories rise to the surface. This past weekend saw many members of the Forester Family return to campus as part of Homecoming 2019….the 70th Homecoming celebration for our University. Class reunions, department gatherings, and a host of traditions mark this as a special weekend on the calendar each year. Amid all the scheduled events and happenings associated with Homecoming, however, relationships are at the core of what makes it so special. Observing friends, classmates, and roommates reconnect was an incredible sight this past weekend. Proverbs 27:9 reads, “Sweet friendships refresh the soul and awaken our hearts with joy” (The Passion Translation). This Homecoming certainly featured the refreshing of souls and awakening of hearts.

Huntington University is often described as a friendly and welcoming place that feels like home. By name, definition, and design, Homecoming is about bringing people back home…in this case, back to Huntington University, where so many connections and relationships were formed. Whether alumni return after graduating seventy years ago or seven, Homecoming is another means to help us fulfill our mission of serving Christ through Scholarship and Service.
