WOMEN’S SOCCER

Facing their second WHAC opponent in as many days, the Forester women’s soccer team struck late to knot things up at 1-1 but the deadlock was short-lived as CU freshman Anna Morgan, ripped a shot into the top left corner with five minutes remaining for the 2-1 win.

With this W, the Golden Eagles remain undefeated on the year at 4-0 while Huntington drops to 3-3.

Morgan’s game-winner was her second goal of the match with her first coming just three minutes in. Cornerstone rested on her laurels until the 81st minute when Kirstin Byrd ran down a long through ball from Courtney McKown and calmly slotted the keeper for the equalizer and what proved her first collegiate goal.

It was a battle from start to finish with a handful of chances in between. The Golden Eagles enjoyed a 10-6 shooting advantage but only a 4-3 tilt in shots on frame. Cornerstone topped HU in corner kicks 6-1.

With two saves and two goals given up, Huntington keeper Maddy Moan was charged with the loss.

While it wasn’t the outcome Coach Lewis was hoping for, he’s pleased with his team’s progress. “Today’s match was a step forward. We are seeing good progress with the direction of our game.

“Cornerstone is a quality team and we were right in the game with them. Kirstin’s goal was a quality finish. Overall, this was a great team effort.”

HU continues the non-conference portion of their schedule with a home match against Lourdes on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
