CROSS COUNTRY
The HU cross country program swept the season’s first Crossroads League Cross Country weekly honors as announced earlier today. Juniors Adrien Gentie and Hannah Stoffel were named the Men’s and Women’s Runners of the Week respectively.
The pair nearly mirrored each other’s success at the Manchester University Hokum Karem Friday night. Both harriers not only clocked the fastest mile in their respective race, but their mile times also set new course records.
The Hokum Karem is a unique race in which two teammates pair up, alternating loops over a one-mile circuit for a total of six miles for women and eight miles for men.
For Gentie, his first mile was his fastest at 4:28. His total time for the four miles was 18:37 which proved a course record. He teamed up with Aaron Hendryx to win the race out of 40 pairs by clocking in at 38:17. As a team, Huntington finished first with eight points as three of HU’s duos finished in the top five.
Stoffel’s first mile was also her fastest. She ran a 5:04 on the way to finishing her three miles in 15:49 which was a new course record on the women’s side. She partnered up with Olivia Von Gunten to finish second overall out of 42 pairs by finishing in 34:36. The Forester women also brought home the title with 12 points as HU’s other pairs came in third and seventh.
The Foresters are back in action on Friday to run in the IWU Twilight Invitational.
