MEN’S TENNIS

Up against one of the nation’s best, the Huntington men’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to #21 Marian University Saturday afternoon at Klopfenstein Courts. Despite the disparity in the final score, the day was filled with quality matches as the Knights had their hands full disposing of the Foresters.

Rodrigo Manzo was the lone Forester to pick up a win in singles play. He went toe-to-toe with Dmitrii Voshchenkov for three sets to capture the thrilling come-from-behind W, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4. Mateo Ameller also took his opponent, Diogo Jesus, to three sets but came up with the short straw for a 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 loss.

While Marian won the point in doubles, Illia Turaba and Diego Tapia teamed up for a 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot to top Voshchenkov and Jesus.

With the loss, the Foresters drop to 1-1 on the year. Eckert’s crew is back in action on Tuesday to host UNOH at 4:00 p.m.
