WOMEN’S GOLF

The Huntington women’s golf team wrapped up their year with an eighth place finish at the Crossroads League Championships by posting a team score of 1041. The Foresters’ play was consistent as they turned in rounds of 349, 344 and 348. The two-day 54-round event was held Prairie View Golf Club.

Betsy Schroeder had a solid outing throughout the tourney to finish 14th individually out of 44 golfers by firing a 244 (83-81-80).

“Betsy played consistently well and improved her scores each round,” said Coach Sholund. “She put herself in position for a top ten finish in a conference that is one of the more competitive in the NAIA. She will grow from this and be ready for a strong senior year next fall.”

As HU’s #2 golfer, Alexandria Maris posted a 257 (84-86-87) to claim 28th overall. Leah Thompson carded a 262 (87-87-88) while Megan Higgins rounded out Huntington’s scoring with a 278 (95-90-93).

Sholund was proud of his team’s effort. “We played very strong in lengthier stretches and we are making strides in our short game. When we learn to shorten the bad stretches, we will put ourselves in position to achieve our goals.”

Taylor claimed the conference title with a 928 followed by Saint Francis (958), IWU (980), Bethel (984), Marian (989), Grace (1004), Mount Vernon (1022), HU (1041) and Spring Arbor (1051).
