It was a slugfest Friday afternoon at Sarge Yoder Field in the nine-inning series opener at Goshen. Both teams registered double-digit runs in an 18-10 contest that saw the visiting Forester baseball team collect the W, upping their win streak to six. Huntington is now 19-9 overall, 13-4 in league play, while the Maple Leafs drop to 12-23 on the year, 6-11 in CL action.

Frame’s crew scored all of their runs in three frames which included opening up a 4-0 lead after two. While HU’s sticks went quiet over the next three innings, the hosts crawled back in it to take a 5-4 lead in the fifth. After their sabbatical at the plate, Huntington stormed back with a vengeance by plating eight runs in the sixth and added six more to their total in the eighth to surge ahead and put the game out of reach.

Twelve batters stepped up to the plate for Huntington in the sixth to sift through four pitchers and log five hits, four walks and a sacrifice fly. The eighth saw HU post six hits highlighted by Jacob Hansen’s three-run dinger and a two-run double at the bat of Andrew Natividad.

Hansen led his team offensively with three hits and five RBI. Satchell Wilson also recorded three hits to go along with driving in a run and scoring three times. Austin Pritchard added three base pokes while Donovan Clark finished with two hits, three RBI and scored twice. When all was said and done, 11 Foresters picked up at least one hit, seven of which registered multiple hits.

As a team, Huntington pounded out 21 hits to Goshen’s eight. It’s the most hits for Frame’s crew since April 17, 2017 when the Foresters amassed 25 against Bethel. One also has to go back to 2017 to see when an HU team last logged more runs in a game which was a 21-1 decision against Goshen back on May 9 of that year.

Three Foresters spent time on the bump with Gabe Freeman, who made his appearance in the fourth, picking up the win by giving up five hits, two runs and a walk in 2.1 inning of work.

HU is back at Sarge Yoder Field tomorrow for a doubleheader with the Leafs at 1:00 p.m.
