WOMEN’S GOLF

Competing in their second event of the spring, the Forester women’s golf team posted a 692 (356, 336) to finish 9th at the Otter Creek Intercollegiate hosted by Saint Francis over the weekend at Timbergate Golf Course.

Alexandria Maris and Betsy Schroeder finished within a stroke of each other to lead Sholund’s squad. Maris registered a 162 (83, 79) to finish 22nd out of 58 golfers. Schroeder carded an 84 on Friday followed by a 79 on Saturday for a 163 good for 24th overall.

Megan Higgins turned in a 179 (92, 87) while Rachel Blauert shot a 188 (97, 91). Rounding out HU’s play was Sara Scott with a 197 (100, 97).

“The ladies showed a lot of grit this weekend in Columbus as they recovered from bad holes and focused on the things they can control,” noted Sholund. “We are certainly gaining momentum as we work through some injuries.

“As we improve in our game around the greens, the scores will continue to improve. Betsy and Alex have led us well this spring with consistent scoring. We are still a young team and that will serve us well moving forward.”

Indiana Tech took home the title with a 611 followed by Saint Francis (613), UNOH (627), Indiana Wesleyan (631), Olivet Nazarene (651), Spring Arbor (655), Grace (661), Mount Vernon (675), HU (692) and St. Francis (IL) (715).

The Foresters are back in action on April 12 to compete in the Pilot Invitational.
