The Forester track and field team opened up its outdoor season on Saturday at the 53rd annual Centre College Invitational where the men took 6th and the women finished 8th.
Avniel Barrow was HU’s main point getter by claiming 2nd in the 100 meters (11.48) and 7ht in the 200 meters (23.85). He, along with Andrew Zachary, Heath Atkins, Peyton Depriest, earned their team’s only gold by winning the 4×100 meter relay in 43.29.
Zachary took 3rd in the 400 meters by clocking in at 51.46. He was also a part of the 4×400 meter relay that finished 3rd in 3:37.87. Other member of the relay team included Depriest, Josiah Sovine and Elijah Chesterman.
Luke Fillers earned 2nd in pole vault with his mark of 3.81 meters.
Other point-getters for HU included Kody Ahrens in the 5,000 meters (7th, 17:46.09), Cameron Worsham in the 110 meter hurdles (6th, 17.15 M), Heath Atkins in triple jump (7th, 12.11 M), Zach Williams in shot put (6th, 12.86 M) and discus (5th, 39.27 M) and Adam Woods in javelin (5th, 40.59 M).
Centre ran away with the title with 202 points followed by Georgetown (100), Lindsey Wilson (98), Campbellsville (89), Union (62), HU (58), Berea (56), Spring Arbor (45), Alice Lloyd (24) and Brescia (1).
On the women’s side, Jessica Chojnacki claimed 3rd in the 800 meters by clocking in at 2:33.90 with Olivia Von Gunten on her heels to finish 4th in 2:34.01. Von Gunten also ran the 400 meters where she placed 6th in 1:04.37.
The pair teamed up with Erin Manchess and Tayia Meadows to run to a 5th place finish in the 4×400 meter relay in 4:27.30. Manchess also earned points for the Foresters in the 3,000 meter steeplechase by earning 3rd in 13:35.41.
Alyssabeth Cottle rounded out HU’s points in pole vault with her 6th place finish of 2.76 meters.
Centre won the meet with 175.5 points followed by Spring Arbor (129), Lindsey Wilson (102), Campbellsville (97), Berea (81), Union (55), Georgetown (44), HU (28.5), Brescia (23) and Alice Lloyd (8).
The Foresters are in action again on April 6 at the Grizzly Invitational hosted by Franklin College.
