The Value Relevancy of our HU Faculty, Core and Curriculum
Parents ask me all the time, in different ways and words, why HU is a better value than our “competitors.” Three thoughts and a conclusion:
Thought #1: In March 2018, the (CCCU) shared results of a study that calculates the economic impact of its 142 Christian colleges and universities. The study found that the CCCU institutions generate “more than $60 billion in economic impact each year (equivalent to $166 million generated per day for the U.S. economy).” https://www.cccu.org/news-updates/new-study-reveals-economic-impact-christian-higher-ed/
Thought #2: Lisa Montany noted in the January 18, 2019 Forester Feed that “After 34, those with an undergraduate degree earn 66% more than those with a high school degree throughout their lifetime.”
Thought #3: HU Faculty do a great job preparing HU students to be 1) critical thinkers, 2) problem solvers, 3) skilled at communications and 4) have the ability to think across multiple disciplines all contextualized by our motto: Christ. Scholarship. Service.
My conclusion: It is interesting to me that HU graduates, equipped with the skills, character and values of a specifically unique, Christ-centered HU core and curriculum, fit what employers desire in employee relevancy in 2 areas:
1. “93% of employers say that a candidate’s capacity to think critically, communicate clearly, and solve complex problems is more important than their undergraduate major” selection (Source: AACU pamphlet; see Kate for details)
2. “80% of employers think that students should acquire broad knowledge in the liberal arts” (Source: liberartspower.org—see Kate for details).
What is your conclusion?
