A partial Huntington track and field squad competed in two different meets over the weekend with impressive results.
On Friday, ten Foresters participated in the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open and despite small numbers and competing against a handful of NCAA Division I teams, the HU men took 9th and the HU women finished 10th.
Highlights of the meet included Aspen Dirr by winning the 1,000 meters by clocking in at 3:00.80. Her time not only lands her the No. 2 spot in the Forester record books but also hits the NAIA B standard.
CJ Robertson (1:22.64) and Josiah Sovine (1:22.82) ran to a 3rd and 4th place finish respectively in the 600 meters with Robertson besting his own school record and Sovine claiming the #2 spot in the HU record books.
On the women’s side, Molly Mitchell also ran the 600 meters where she took 3rd in 1:38.59, the third fastest time in school history.
Huntington made the short trip to Fort Wayne on Saturday to compete in the Aaron Porter Invitational hosted by Indiana Tech.
The day saw Nick Childs win the mile in a PR 4:31.00 and then take 3rd in the 1,000 meters in 2:48.45. Sovine toed the line in the 600 meters again and finished 3rd.
For the women, Saige Norris brought home a 1st place finish in the 3,000 meters by crossing the line in 10:55.98. Her time is the 3rd fasted in program history.
When all was said and done, 24 new PRs were established over the course of Friday and Saturday. They Foresters are back in action on January 19 to compete in Purdue Fort Wayne’s Fort Wayne Duals.
