WOMEN’S SOCCER

Playing in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League tournament, the 2nd-seeded Grace College Lancers brought an end to the 7th-seeded Huntington women’s soccer team’s season Wednesday afternoon at 1st Source Bank Field by blanking their visitors 2-0.

With this loss, HU wraps up the year with an overall record of 5-13-1.

The Lancers, currently holding the No. 16 spot in the national poll, scored both goals in the first half, the first in the 29th minute and the second just before halftime. They tallied 13 shots in each period while limiting Huntington to five shots, four of which came at the foot of HU leading-scorer Matea Knispel.

Autumn Demott took the loss in net for HU. The senior keeper deflected eight shots on frame.

While the end of a season is never easy, Coach Burge is quick to reflect on what a special group this was. “The season ended earlier than we would have liked, and with a record we weren’t exactly expecting.

“But the ‘off scoreboard’ victories this year far outweigh any score. The women in this program, or family rather, are incredible children of God and the way they carry themselves and serve others day in and day out is such a blessing.”
