VOLLEYBALL
The Forester volleyball team made the long haul to Ariel Arena, one of the toughest league gyms to play in, Friday night only to be sent home with a 3-1 loss, 25-23, 21-25, 25-11, 25-1, to Mount Vernon.
The Cougars have won four of their last six contests as they improve to 14-19 overall, 3-14 in league play. The Foresters are now 9-23 on the year, 5-11 in conference action.
HU played within four kills of their hosts by posting 43 kills to MVNU’s 47. The glaring difference came by way of the Foresters’ overall errors which exceeded Mount Vernon’s mistakes by more than 20.
“There isn’t a tougher place to play in the Crossroads League than Mount Vernon,” said Shondell. “That said, any time you make 49 errors as a team, you’ll make it hard to win wherever you are.”
MVNU is known for their unrelenting scrappiness that could be likened to a younger sibling who won’t stop poking at her older sister. “Mount Vernon is designed to frustrate you, and for long stretches we let them.”
It was another outing where the Foresters shared the offensive load. Tailor Schultheis paced Shondell’s crew with ten kills, the tenth time this season she’s logged double digit kills. She also finished with 1.5 blocks.
“Tailor was steady all night,” said Shondell. “Not just offensively, but her energy pushed us when we needed it to.”
Brandy Michie and Lindsay Ingenito added eight kills apiece while Paige Eakright collected seven. Jenna Tacosik handled the bulk of the setting responsibilities by dishing out 26 assists while Ariene Butler spearheaded the defense with 19 digs.
The Foresters have a short break before hosting #24 Marian tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
