WOMEN’S SOCCER
Hosting the #3 team in the nation Wednesday afternoon, the Forester women’s soccer team gave the Cougars of Spring Arbor University all they could handle before conceding a 2-0 loss.
“It’s unusual to think of a 2-0 loss as a victory but the way these ladies held the well-organized, explosive Spring Arbor side to just one goal per half leaves a great deal to be proud of,” said Coach Burge. “The ladies are certainly clicking well as our regular season comes to a close Saturday.
“Time will tell if we’ve done enough to advance, but regardless of when our season ends, I’m absolutely proud of the way they have battled game in and game out.”
The Cougars found back netting just under 17 minutes into the contest and then again in the 61st minute to tally their 14th win of the year. After holding the No. 1 spot nationally all season, SAU (14-1-1, 8-1-1) slipped to #3 after suffering a 2-0 loss to Marian earlier this week.
Danielle Dehner took the loss in net for HU. She finished with seven saves.
Huntington (4-12-1, 1-6-1) wraps up the regular season on Saturday with a road trip to Bethel. With a win against the Pilots, the Foresters would finish seventh in the conference standings. First round of the Crossroads League tournament is slated for October 31.
