MEN’S SOCCER

The Forester men’s soccer team struck first but Taylor had the final say in a 2-1 decision that favored the visiting Trojans at King Stadium on a Saturday afternoon where HU’s nine seniors were recognized before kick-off.

After starting league play with three losses, TU has stepped up to get results in their last five CL games by going 3-0-2 to find themselves in the mix to finish in the top four of the regular season standings. With just one match remaining before postseason, the Trojans (6-7-2) are 3-3-2 in conference play for a share of the third spot in the standings.

Huntington’s record in the league also stands at 3-3-2 for a share of third with Taylor and Mount Vernon. Overall, the Foresters are 8-6-3.

Ben Arnold came off the bench near the end of the first half to score the game’s first goal on a header off a scramble in the box. It marked the rookie’s third goal of the season and came with seven minutes left in the opening frame.

Unfortunately, the Foresters didn’t get to take the advantage into break as Taylor’s equalizer, also a header, came on a corner five minutes later for a 1-1 deadlock at intermission. Adding insult to injury, the Trojans were quick to strike again. Just over ten minutes into the second half, Josiah Wieland chipped one in for what proved the game winner.

HU outshot their visitors 13-10 and also enjoyed seven corner kicks to Taylor’s two. Gabe Greenfield took the loss in goal.

“We are currently struggling to finish our chances and that is what has drawn us back in the pack,” said Coach Lawson. “We had a solid sparks off the bench today but ultimately it comes down to getting three points and simply put – we weren’t good enough.

“But the boys are working hard and staying together with a belief that our form will return.”

Huntington’s last regular season match is Wednesday at #20 Spring Arbor.
