MEN’S SOCCER

For the second straight match, the HU men’s soccer team logged a draw after a pair of overtimes. On this given night, the deadlock was a 1-1 tie with Goshen under the lights at Ingold Athletic Complex.

With this result, Huntington (8-4-3) stays put at the No. 3 spot in the conference standings with a 3-1-2 CL record, while Goshen moves to 6-7-2 overall, 1-3-2 in league action.

Spencer Aeschliman scored on a through ball just before halftime to send Goshen into break with a 1-0 advantage. That lead stood until the 61st minute when Ty Sproat made a fantastic defensive play by turning over GC’s center back and then slipping the ball to Jake Erlandson who calmly slotted the keeper far post for the equalizer.

The goal marked Erlandson’s fourth of the season.

Shots were a plenty for both sides with Goshen holding a slight 20-18 advantage. Gabe Greenfield came up with some huge saves in net, especially in the second half, to protect his team from defeat. The sophomore keeper tallied ten saves on his way to the tie.

“Both teams had quality opportunities,” said Lawson. “I thought we had our fair possession of the ball. Goshen looked to sit in and take us off the counter for some dangerous pieces.

“One thing that impressed me the most was that our boys stayed composed and attacked with courage knowing what Goshen was trying to do. It was a hard fought point. We played a lot of soccer this week and I’m proud of the boys for their compete level and ability to stay with the game.”
