WOMEN’S TENNIS

In its league opener, the Huntington women’s tennis team had no trouble disposing of Spring Arbor University 7-2 at Jones Tennis Complex Thursday afternoon. With this win, HU improves to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in Crossroads League action.

The Foresters have now logged four straight wins over the Cougars with SAU’s last win, a 5-4 decision, dating back to September 30, 2014.

While things came fairly easily for the visitors on this given day, #4 singles was a showdown. It was the only match to extend to three sets with HU’s Anastasiia Evstifeeva outlasting Jewell Allen, 4-6, 6-3, 10-2.

Coach Ferguson had nothing but praise for his lone senior’s come-from-behind win. “Anastasiia played an incredible match today against an unorthodox style player. She showed a lot of grit and determination in her win.”

Huntington is back at it on Saturday with a road trip to Indianapolis to face Marian at 11:00 a.m.
