The 3rd-seeded HU baseball team remains on the hunt for a repeat CL tourney championship with a 10-0 win over 7th-seeded Mount Vernon Monday morning at Taylor’s Winterholter Field. Colton Punches spearheaded the W with his dazzling performance on the mound.

It’s the second time this year the senior hurler has spent nine frames on the hill without surrendering an earned run. The first was April 13 against Spring Arbor where the Cougars scored an unearned run in a 4-1 Huntington win.

Punches had plenty of help this morning from his teammates to secure the lopsided win. Frame’s crew was savvy at the plate, pounding out 11 hits and drawing 12 free passes which included ten walks and two hit batters, for their third double-digit victory of the season.

The Foresters’ biggest frame was the fifth when they cashed in on two hits, three walks and both hit batters for four runs. Nick Davit highlighted the inning by roping a double down the right field line to drive in a pair of runs. Tyler Zimske and Kyle Selvey each coaxed a walk with bases loaded to account for HU’s other two runs.

Huntington’s first three runs came in the first two frames while their last three runs came in last two frames. Adam Roser, Selvey and Adrian Perez each registered a run-scoring base knock at the beginning of the contest with Perez hammering out a triple for his RBI-hit.

Donovan Clark singled in a run in the ninth while the other two late runs were scored as a result of a missed catch and passed ball.

The Foresters (20-23) take to Winterholter Field again tonight at 7PM for another chance to survive and advance. Frame’s crew will face the winner of the Saint Francis/Indiana Wesleyan game currently in progress.
