MEN’S SOCCER

The HU men’s soccer team saw its postseason aspirations dashed Wednesday night at CH4 Stadium, falling 3-0 to Mount Vernon Nazarene in the regular-season finale.

Entering the evening in ninth place in the Crossroads League standings, the Foresters (4-9-2, 1-6-2 CL) faced a must-win scenario coupled with needing a Grace victory over Taylor to claim a spot in the eight-team conference tournament. While Grace held up its end with a 1-0 decision over the Trojans, Huntington could not overcome a potent Cougars attack that had outscored opponents 43-15 entering the contest.

Mount Vernon (10-3-3, 4-3-2 CL) broke through in the 13th minute when Baba Sarr finished a feed from Cesar Silva to put the hosts on top 1-0. The Cougars carried the one-goal margin into halftime before extending their advantage early in the second stanza. Sarr turned distributor in the final 45 minutes, setting up Miguel Bello for back-to-back tallies in the 50th and 56th minutes to seal the 3-0 decision.

Huntington’s offense was limited to five total shots with three on frame, as Samuel Edem, Karsyn Bougher and Ugnius Zenkovas each forced saves from MVNU keeper Brayden Pierson. Defensively, sophomore keeper Adrian Camarena absorbed heavy pressure between the pipes for the Foresters, recording ten saves while facing 13 shots on goal across 90 minutes. Overall, MVNU held a 35-5 advantage in total shots (13-3 on goal).

Tonight’s setback brings the Foresters’ 2026 season to an official close. Highlights from the fall campaign included back-to-back late-September draws against then-No. 20 Spring Arbor (2-2) and then-No. RV Grace (0-0), while Max Nayo paced the HU offensive attack on the year with a team-high four goals.
