MEN’S TENNIS
The 10th-ranked Huntington men’s tennis team saw its historic season come to an end Wednesday afternoon with a hard-fought 4-2 loss to seventh-ranked Lindsey Wilson on day two of the 74th annual NAIA National Championship at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.
The Foresters came out firing by securing the doubles point to grab an early 1-0 lead heading into singles play. Lindsey Wilson answered quickly, however, collecting straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to swing the momentum and take a 2-1 advantage.
What followed was an all-out battle as the remaining four singles matches all pushed to decisive third sets. Javier Lopez Real delivered a huge response for Huntington at No. 5 singles, grinding out a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 victory to even the overall match score at 2-2 and keep the Foresters alive.
From there, every point mattered. Juan Carrasco eventually conceded at No. 6 singles before Lindsey Wilson clinched the match at No. 3 singles to end Huntington’s tournament run.
Despite the loss, the Foresters close the year with arguably the best season in program history, finishing 21-5 overall. The 21 victories marked Huntington’s first 20-win season since 1995-96. This season marks the ninth time in program history the Foresters have danced on the NAIA big stage.
HU also reached new heights nationally throughout the year. The Foresters earned the highest NAIA Coaches’ Poll ranking in program history by climbing to No. 10 while also appearing tenth nationally in the latest ITA rankings after reaching as high as fourth earlier this spring.
Individually, the Foresters also made noise on the national stage. Julian Tantera currently sits 11th in the ITA singles rankings while Martin Capdevilla checks in at No. 29 and Santiago Sariduasky at No. 39. In doubles play, Tantera and Javier Lopez Real are ranked second nationally.
While today’s loss brought an end to their tourney run and season, the 2025-26 Foresters cemented themselves as one of the top teams in the country and one of the most accomplished squads in program history.
