The #RV Forester baseball team kept it rolling Saturday afternoon, stretching its win streak to 11 with a doubleheader sweep of Spring Arbor at Hank Burbridge Field, 4-0 and 6-3. Coupled with Friday’s sweep, Huntington dominated the series 4-0, highlighted by a pair of shutouts.
Game 1 – Huntington 4, Spring Arbor 0
Game one was a masterclass on the mound.
Grant Simmons was nothing short of brilliant, spinning a complete-game, nine-inning shutout to improve to 5-0. The right-hander scattered just three hits, walked none and struck out five while facing only 30 batters on 103 pitches.
Spring Arbor never found a rhythm, managing just three baserunners all game with only two advancing past first as Simmons delivered five 1-2-3 frames.
The offense didn’t need to do much – and didn’t.
Huntington scored four runs on just three hits but made the most of nine walks. Cam Clarkson accounted for all three RBI, ripping a two-run double down the left field line in the first before adding a sac fly in the eighth.
Owen Willard was a menace on the bases, scoring twice, swiping two bags and even stealing home to cap the scoring after an errant throw. Kade Flores added a hit and scored, while Keifer Wilson reached base three times via walks and crossed the plate once.
Game 2 – Huntington 6, Spring Arbor 3
Game two saw the Foresters strike early and lean on a deep bullpen to close it out.
Huntington plated five runs in the third to take control, sparked once again by Clarkson, who cleared the bases with a three-run double. Tanner Reinartz followed two batters later with a two-run double to extend the lead to 5-0.
Clarkson finished with three RBI for the second straight game, while Reinartz drove in two.
The Foresters totaled six runs on six hits, with Owen Willard leading the way with a 2-for-4 performance and two runs scored. Jace Fowler also added a hit and scored, while Keifer Wilson chipped in an RBI via sac fly. HU added pressure on the basepaths with three stolen bases in the nightcap.
On the mound, five Foresters combined to limit Spring Arbor to just two hits. Keegan Shovlain set the tone, allowing one run on one hit over three innings to earn the win. Carter Wilkinson and Gabe Hamrick provided key middle innings to halt momentum while Dylan Eggl slammed the door with a perfect seventh to earn his eighth save of the season.
Spring Arbor made a push midway through game two, scoring three runs across the fourth and fifth innings, but Huntington’s early surge proved too much to overcome.
HU wraps up the regular season with a four-game home series against Mount Vernon starting on Thursday.
