MEN’S TENNIS

The No. 17 Huntington men’s tennis team opened its spring slate Saturday with a 4–0 loss to Wayne State University at the Duchene Athletic Facility marking the Foresters’ first loss of the year.

The Raiders, an NCAA Division II program that finished second in the GLIAC standings a season ago, provided a stiff early-season test for the Foresters in what marked Huntington’s first match of the spring championship segment.

Huntington battled in doubles play, competing well across the board before Wayne State ultimately claimed the opening point. The match was later called once the Raiders secured three singles victories to reach the four-point threshold.

Saturday’s contest also marked the beginning of a new era for Crossroads League tennis, as the CL officially joins every other NAIA conference in designating the spring as its primary championship season.

The Foresters will have two weeks to regroup before returning to Michigan on February 13, when they face Lawrence Tech at 11:00 a.m.
