WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The #20 Huntington women’s basketball team (12-4, 4-2) wasted no time getting back in the win column Wednesday night, drilling its way to an 85–64 victory over Goshen (3-13, 0-6) inside Platt Arena. The win marked HU’s sixth straight over the Maple Leafs and continued a long-standing run of dominance, as the Foresters have now won 15 of the last 16 meetings in the series.

Teegan Acres set the tone immediately, opening the game’s scoring with a three from the wing – an early strike that foreshadowed a long night from deep for the Foresters. Huntington never relinquished the lead, racing out to a 21–10 advantage after the opening quarter before stretching it to a commanding 44–21 cushion by halftime.

Huntington put on a perimeter shooting clinic, finishing the night shooting a blistering 57.7 percent (15-for-26) from beyond the arc while posting an even 50.0 percent (30-for-59) from the floor overall. The 15 made threes marked the second-most in a game this season and just the fourth time this year the Foresters have connected on double-digit triples.

Annaka Nelson was the headliner from long range, burying five three-pointers, at least one in every quarter, on her way to a game-high 20 points. Izzy Shepherd also had the hot hand off the bench, knocking down three from downtown to finish with 11 points.

While the shooting grabbed the spotlight, the unsung hero was Kyndra Sheets. The sophomore point guard delivered a complete performance, totaling 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting, a career-tying eight assists and four rebounds while logging all 40 minutes. Sheets controlled the tempo throughout, directing traffic and keeping Huntington’s offense in rhythm from start to finish.

Liv Raby rounded out the Foresters’ double-figure scorers with 13 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists. Addie Shank chipped in nine points and led HU on the glass with 11 rebounds, while Peyton Hartsough added six points, all coming on a pair of perfect looks from deep.

Goshen trimmed six points off the margin in the third quarter, but the Foresters quickly responded in the final ten minutes, outscoring the Maple Leafs by four to seal the 21-point win.

For Goshen, Ava Egolf and Kyla Foster each finished with a team-high 13 points. Foster also pulled down a game-best 14 rebounds, while Lillian Null added 10 points. Zy’Ann Phinezy and Nasiya Gause each provided 11 points off the bench for the Maple Leafs.

Coach Maggard and crew will look to keep the momentum rolling Saturday when Huntington returns to Platt Arena to host #RV Taylor at 1:00 p.m.
