BOWLING

The Forester bowling teams invaded Dayton (Ohio) over the weekend, turning in a solid showing at the Raider Classic. The event featured one of the shortest formats of the season with teams competing in four traditional games on Saturday followed by 16 Baker games on Sunday.

The HU men placed 8th among 21 teams with a weekend total of 7,195 pins. David McLaughlin led the charge for his team, posting an 857 over four games to average 214. His performance earned him a 15th-place individual finish out of 206 bowlers.

“The shot for the men was very playable and very scorable,” said Coach Mike Shockey. “We brought good energy for the weekend, but just couldn’t find our way to strike consistent enough to keep up with the leaders.”

On the women’s side, Huntington claimed 6th place out of 15 schools with a total pinfall of 6,188. Aurora Yantz paced the Foresters with a four-game total of 740, averaging 185 to finish 14th individually among 117 competitors.

“The shot for the women was similar to the men, but played much harder and put a premium on shot making and spare shooting,” noted Shockey. “The women continue to improve each week and are going to be a tough team by the time the bigger tournaments happen in February and March.”

Next up for the Foresters is the first of four Crossroads League tournaments, set for December 5 in Marion.
