PLEX Membership

Faculty and staff,

The PLEX provides all HU faculty and staff with access to a facility membership as a taxable fringe benefit. Because the IRS classifies employee use of the athletic facility in this way, each employee must decide whether to participate in the membership program.

There is no cost for employees who choose the individual membership option. If you select a couple or family membership, your cost will be limited to the FICA taxes on the difference between the annual value of that membership type and the individual membership. The corresponding FICA tax amounts are listed below.

Individual Annual Membership fee       $550        No additional cost
Couple Annual Membership fee           $685        FICA TAXES withheld are $10.33
Family Annual Membership fee           $780        FICA TAXES withheld are $17.60

If you would like to take advantage of this benefit, please complete the membership agreement found at this link: https://www.huathletics.com/merillat-complex-membership-agreement. The deadline to join the membership program is this Friday, November 15, 2025.

When we receive your completed agreement, we will notify the business office of your decision so that the appropriate change can be made to the FICA tax withholding from your December 10, 2025, paycheck. The full cost of the membership then will appear on your annual W-2 form for use in filing federal and state tax returns.

When you sign up for a membership, you will receive a membership card that can be presented when you use the PLEX facilities.
