WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
#RV Huntington University fell to No. 13 Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Wednesday night, as the Cougars earned a decisive 3-0 win (25-17, 25-15, 25-18) inside Platt Arena.
The matchup featured two teams tied for second place in the Crossroads League standings, adding extra energy to the Pink Out crowd. Every Crossroads League program hosted a Pink Out event on Wednesday night in partnership with Vera Bradley to promote breast cancer awareness.
From the opening serve, Mount Vernon set the tone with efficient offense and relentless defense. The Cougars hit .224 on the night while holding the Foresters to just .015. MVNU controlled the tempo throughout, never allowing Huntington to find rhythm offensively or sustain momentum for extended stretches.
Despite the pressure, the Foresters battled behind Haley Kruse and Maggie Hollon, who each finished with eight kills. Maisyn Robrock added six kills and a block assist, while Lauren Ross directed the offense with 18 assists. Layla Meyer anchored the defense with 15 digs as Huntington fought to stay within striking distance in each set.
Mount Vernon also held a 73–59 edge in digs and out-blocked the Foresters 8–3 to seal the sweep.
“At this point in our season, we can’t afford to have matches like the one we had tonight”, said Forester coach Kelsey Herber. “Each time we step on the floor, we need to play with a confidence that says we are here to compete and win. We have fundamental areas that we are going to work on these next couple days so that we are ready to turn things around for a big match on Saturday.”
On a positive note, superfan Rita McCabe sold 85 bags of her famous caramel corn to contribute to the Pink Out, adding a dose of community spirit to the evening. The loss snapped an 8-game winning streak for the Foresters but also brought perspective on what a real challenge looks like, as the Pink Out served as a powerful reminder of the fight against breast cancer.
Huntington will look to get back on track this Saturday when they host Taylor University on Senior Day inside Platt Arena.
