MEN’S SOCCER
The Huntington men’s soccer team delivered an impressive performance Wednesday night at King Stadium, cruising to a 5-0 shutout over Goshen College for their first Crossroads League win of the season.
It didn’t take long for the Foresters (3-7-1, 1-4-1 CL) to set the tone. Less than 90 seconds in, Kolton Foster pounced on a deflected shot and slotted home an easy finish to put HU on top early. Just over four minutes later, Thiago Fernando weaved through three defenders to bury the first of his two first-half goals. He struck again in the 28th minute, this time off a setup from Kovan Drenth, to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Foresters weren’t done yet. With less than three minutes left in the half, Reshano Hasselbaink netted his first goal in green and white, finishing a beautiful ball from Foster to cap a dominant opening 45 minutes.
HU’s defense continued to lock down after the break, anchored by goalkeeper Zane Hydock, who posted four saves en route to his first collegiate shutout. On the other end, Huntington’s efficiency remained on full display as Henry Heaney added a fifth goal in the 85th minute off a feed from Drenth—his second assist of the night.
The Foresters were clinical offensively, converting five of their eight shots on frame while holding the Maple Leafs (6-5-3, 0-4-2 CL) to just four shots on goal.
Huntington now turns its attention to a tough road test at No. 3 Bethel on Saturday, with kickoff set for 5:00 p.m. in Mishawaka.
