Auditions for “Arsenic and Old Lace”
Auditions for HU’s production of “Arsenic and Old Lace” are Monday, October 27. To audition, you will need to prepare a 45- to 90-second comedic monologue from a play written after 1700. Suggestions:
- Any comedy written by Oscar Wilde
- Any comedy written by Moliere
- The School for Scandal by Richard Brinsley Sheridan
- She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith
- The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder
- The Way of the World by William Congreve
- The Country Wife by William Wycherley (this one was written slightly prior to 1700 but is still in the same vein)
- The Rover by Aphra Behn
A lot of these are available free online through sites like Project Gutenburg, but the campus library also has a great selection of options. A copy of the script is available upon request. Performance dates are February 5-7, 2026.
