SOFTBALL

The Forester softball team rolled to an 8-0 shutout over Grace on Saturday afternoon at home. With the score locked at 4-4 heading into the seventh, game two of the twin bill was suspended due to rain and will go down as a tie in the record books.

Kinzie Mollenkopf continued her dominant stretch in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout in the five-inning opener, which ended early via the knockout rule. The sophomore right-hander improved to 9-3 on the season, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out two.

HU wasted no time getting on the board, as Gena Moore drove in the first run with a hard-hit single through the left side in the opening frame. Moments later, Jo Walker ripped a two-run double to the warning track in left-center to give the Foresters a quick 3-0 lead.

Jess Duvall extended the margin in the second with a two-out, two-run triple over the centerfielder’s head. Kasey Hickle followed with an RBI single in the fourth, and HU sealed the win in the fifth when Kylie Fisher’s RBI fielder’s choice—coupled with a Grace error—brought in two more to reach the eight-run threshold.

Duvall led the offense with her two-run triple, while Hickle and Moore each collected two hits and an RBI. The Foresters outhit Grace 8-3, drew five walks, and didn’t strike out once in the opener.

With today’s win and tie, Huntington improves to 21-10-1 overall and 10-7-1 in conference play. Up next, they’ll host Mount Vernon Nazarene on Tuesday for a home doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
