Disc Golf Year in Review

As many of you know, last year we began the process of redesigning our disc golf course, and our students and community responded with great support. This year, we finalized the new layout and updated our baskets. Now, we only have to move/install three tee pads to complete the redesign. Here is some data to show how our course was used from January — November of this year. Keep in mind this data is ONLY tracking people who use the UDisc app. Our best estimation is this probably only accounts for 50-60% of our actual usage, as most of our students and many families aren’t tracking their rounds on the app.

Total Rounds Played: 2,528
New Visitors to Our Course: 137
Hours Played: 1,618
Miles Walked: 1,981
Steps Taken: 4,181,378
Outside of Indiana, we had people playing from Illinois, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, South Carolina, Minnesota, and Utah. This doesn’t include a couple that played during Homecoming and came all the way from Washington.

In August, we held a tournament that had 84 registrants, making it the largest tournament in Huntington County this year. We also went through a glow tournament in which we capped registration at 48 players, and it easily filled up.

In November, we installed solar-powered LED lights on all the baskets to help facilitate after-dark/glow rounds. To my knowledge, we are currently the only course around doing this, and it has already proven to be a big success, with November (you read that right) being our second-highest rounds played month of the year.

So that’s your “Disc Golf Year in Review.” I would like to give a special shout-out to Russ Degitz and Marci Nofziger for the support they have shown during this rebuild process. From the very beginning, these two have played a pivotal role, and none of this would have been possible without their support.
