WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Indiana Tech made quick work of the Huntington women’s volleyball team on Friday afternoon at the Turnstone Center in Fort Wayne (25-17, 25-10, 25-18). The non-conference match up was the eighth time the two teams have met. The Warriors have won six of the eight contests.

The Foresters took their only lead of the contest at 14-13 in the first set. Indiana Tech would go on a 12-3 run to win the opening set 25-17. The Foresters were unable to find their groove in the second set. Trailing 6-1, HU was able to rattle off three points to draw within two but could not score consecutive points in the remainder of the set. Indiana Tech would win set two 25-10, before completing the sweep with a 25-18 third set victory.

As a team, the Foresters offense was limited to a .023 hitting percentage, while the host Warriors hit at a .241 clip. Kortney Grimm led the offense with eight of the 22 Forester kills.

“Today was not our day, and Indiana Tech played a great match.” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “On Monday and Tuesday of next week, we are going to dial in our blocking discipline, passing, and executing offensively so that we are best prepared going into the second round of conference play.”

The Foresters have been on the road often in the first half of the season but will host six of the remaining nine matches to finish off the season. Huntington will welcome the University of Saint Francis on Wednesday in Platt Arena. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
