MEN’S SOCCER
The Huntington men’s soccer team picked up a win in the Windy City Wednesday night by slipping past Saint Xaiver 1-0 at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field. With this victory, HU improves to 4-2-1 while the loss leaves the Cougars (0-4-1) still on the prowl for their first win of the year.
The visiting Foresters more than doubled up their hosts in shots taken, 13-6, with six on frame to SXU’s three. Dan Pellegrine spent 90 minutes in net, logging three saves, to earn the clean sheet. Three of Huntington’s four wins have been shutouts.
Owen Leland scored the game’s lone goal in the ninth minute of play. The Foresters were able to ride out their early lead for the win. Leland’s game-winner was his second goal of the season.
Huntington has two more non-conference games before spending the rest of their season in Crossroads League play. HU returns to King Stadium for a two-game homestand, hosting Lawrence Tech on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and Trinity Christian on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
