MEN’S GOLF

The Huntington men’s golf program claimed fourth at the Crossroads League Championships earlier this week at Chariot Run Golf Club in Laconia, Ind. It’s the program’s highest finish since 2013.

The two-day, 56-hole tourney saw the Foresters fire a 31-over-par 895 with their best score a 290 in the second round. HU shot a 307 and 298 on either side of it. Dwyer’s crew finished one stroke ahead of Bethel, Grace and Saint Francis who had to settle for a three-way tie for fifth.

Playing among a competitive field of 48 golfers, Mitchell Wilson toped the Foresters with a two-over-par 218 (74-71-73) to finish 12th. Three strokes back was Peyton Richmond with a 17th-place score of 221 (76-71-74). Luke VanDeventer came in next for his team with a 227 (81-72-74) for 24th place.

Colby Martin was a picture of consistency, carding a pair of 76s and a 77 to finish 27th with a 229. Carter Roseboom played just the first round, turning in an 88 while Brenner Lampton played the final two rounds where he shot an 81 and 83 respectively.

Marian captured the team title with an 828 followed by Taylor (861), IWU (871), Huntington (895), Bethel (896), Grace (896), Saint Francis (896), Spring Arbor (902) and Mount Vernon (950).

Huntington wrapped up the year with two team titles which included winning the Cardinal Classic last fall and topping the field last month at the AC Eddy Invitational.
