WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Rookie Bailey Kelham turned heads all season and for her efforts was tabbed the Crossroads League Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Year as voted on by the league coaches.

The last Forester to earn this designation was Lauren Meese back in 2010.

Kelham averaged a team-leading 17.4 points to go along with ripping down 4.0 rebounds, swiping 1.5 steals and handing out 1.1 assists per night.

The 5-8 guard was dead-eye from long range, tossing in 2.9 triples per outing at a clip of 39.7 percent to lead the league in three-pointers made per game. The sharpshooter also ranks fifth in scoring among her league peers and third in free throw percentage having gone 127-for-144 for 88.2 percent.

In addition to be deemed the best freshman in the CL, Kelham was one of ten players to be named First Team All-Conference. The Garrett High School product was also an All-Freshmen Team pick.

Joining Kelham on the All-Freshmen Team was Olivia Raby. The 6-1 center tossed in 10.1 points and posted 5.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 blocks per night. She sizzled the nets to the tune of 48.5 percent (112-for-231) to lead HU in field goal percentage which puts her 15th in the league.

Rounding out Huntington’s honors was junior Gabi Melby. The 5-4 playmaker did a little bit of everything for Coach Darby Maggard to earn Second Team All-League praises. She poured in 15.8 points and collected 3.6 rebounds per game. She also led the team in assists (4.9) and steals (1.9).

Among her league peers, Melby is the second best assist getter and ranks sixth in steals and eighth in scoring.

The Foresters finished the year with a 15-14 record. Maggard’s crew was 9-9 in CL action to finish tied for fifth in the regular season standings.
