BASEBALL

The HU baseball team wrapped up their series with #13 MidAmerica in dramatic fashion Saturday afternoon by suffering an 8-7 loss in ten innings. With this loss, Huntington finishes 1-2 on the weekend.

Originally slated as a nine-inning contest, it took an extra frame to decide today’s battle. The Foresters looked like the early favorite having raced out to a 7-1 lead through the first six frames. Unfortunately, the Pioneers’ bats came to life late for what proved an impressive comeback.

The hosts found home five times in the seventh and then added the tying run in the eighth. Finally in the tenth, after a lead-off double, MNU loaded the bases and then drew a walk-off base on balls to complete the come-from-behind win.

Six of Huntington’s seven runs where the result of big bats. Matt Wolff sent a two-run bomb over the right field fence in the first for the early lead. The sixth saw Beyonce Paco Paulina lead-off the frame with a blast into the trees. Three batters later, Owen Imel drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and then with ducks on the pond, Ryne Wheeler sailed one out of the park in three-run fashion. It was his second dinger of the series.

Wolff finished with two hits, two runs and two RBI. Sebastian Kuhns also collected a pair of base pokes.

RJ Anglin got the start for HU. In 4.1 innings on the mound, the rookie gave up three hits, one run and five walks while striking out five for the no decision. Three other Foresters spent time on the bump before Max Meisner took the loss having given up the run in the tenth.

Huntington heads to Kentucky next weekend to face Midway on Friday and Georgetown on Saturday.
