INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

The Huntington indoor track and field program kicked off the new year at the Indiana Tech Invite on Friday at the Doug Edgar Indoor Track Facility where several Foresters hit qualifying marks and found their way into the HU record books.

Erica Xayarath had a great day in jumps to bring home two first place finishes and a third place finish. Her first place finish of 11.32 meters in triple jump proved a B NAIA standard. She also won long jump with her leap of 5.65 meters and took third in high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters.

Huntington dominated triple jump by taking second place as well. Brooklyn Simmons turned in a mark of 10.78 meters to finish second behind Xayarath and slide into the No. 5 spot in the HU record books. High jump also saw the Foresters claim two of the first three spots. Josey Reineman’s leap of 1.68 meters was good for second at the meet but more importantly an automatic qualifying mark and the second best jump in Forester history.

Other great performances included Malarie Pinwar (10:32.77) and Emily Tedder (10:36.96) taking first and second respectively in the 3000 meters. MacKenzie Brewer (2:27.88) and Trysta Hilton (2:41.53) ran a solid 800 meter race to finish second and fifth respectively.

On the men’s side, Austin Liepe won the 3000 meters in 8:38.22 which punched his ticket to nationals as a B standard. His time is also the seventh best in program history. Kent Yoder wasn’t far back, taking third in 8:47.55. HU’s other top five finish included Parker Baker (5th, 2:06.66) in the 800 meters.

Other Foresters to crack the Top Ten in the HU record books include:
Corbin Till – 4th in the 60 meters (7.07)
Grady Martin – 8th in the 600 meters (1:28.24)
Parker Baker – 2nd in the 60 meter hurdles (8.95)
Gabe King – 1st in the 3000 meter racewalk (19:57.00)

The Foresters will compete in the Steemer Showcase at Wittenburg on Saturday.
