INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

The HU indoor track and field program spent Friday at the GVSU Holiday Classic hosted by Grand Valley State where several Foresters rewrote some of the Huntington record books and qualified for nationals.

On the women’s side, Anna Martin hit an A standard in the 3000 meters with her time of 9:55.36 which ranks her 4th nationally among her NAIA peers and in HU history. Emily Tedder (10:27.42) and Malarie Pinwar (10:28.90) also toed the line of the 3000 meters to claim the 8th and 9th fastest time respectively in Forester history.

Brooklyn Simmons had a solid outing, claiming the No. 3 spot in the HU history books in long jump with a leap of 5.52 meters which also proved a B standard. She also sprinted her way to an 8.13 in the 60 meters for the ninth fastest time in HU history. Addyson Dowler also ran an 8.13 in the 60 meters to share the No. 9 spot with Simmons.

Trysta Hilton shaved off a few seconds from last weekend in the 400 meters to post a 1:01.13 which is the sixth best time in Huntington history. Molly Harding also slipped in at the No. 6 spot for HU in the 5000 meters with her time of 18:24.22.

Zach Collins picked up where he left off last weekend, this time breaking the school record in the 400 meters in 47.73 which is also an automatically qualifying time and currently the fourth fastest time in the NAIA.

Sam Handerson turned in a pair of performances that landed him in the HU record book which included the second fastest time in the 60 meters (6.96) and third farthest mark in long jump (6.83 meters). Grady Martin’s 23.23 in the 200 meters is worthy of the No. 9 spot in the Forester history books.

Reece Gibson punched his ticket to nationals in the 3000 meters by clocking in at 8:32.02 which is the fourth fastest time in HU history and a B standard.

“This was a great almost full team opener for us,” said Coach Austin Roark. “It was nice to get out to a meet before the break and see where we are.

“We have so much potential and improvement that will happen this season. Coaches Coby Bailey and Destiny Copeland have established a culture and a movement of progression amongst our sprints and jumps and I’m excited to see that group continue to build.”

Huntington is off until the new year when they compete in the SVSU Classic on January 12.
