WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The HU women’s basketball team hit the century mark for the first time this season in a 106-36 routing of Calumet College of Saint Joseph at Platt Arena. The two programs have met just twice in the last decade with the Foresters winning both times.

It was a contest never in doubt. Senior Emily Seboe nailed two from downtown to open up an early 6-0 lead. There was no looking back as the hosts piled up 13 more points before the Crimson Wave finally got on the board. It was a 24-4 difference by the first break with the gap widening with each quarter to make for the finally lopsided 70-point discrepancy.

Maggard’s crew had their most efficient offensive outing of the year, connecting on a season-best 50.7 percent of their field goals (34-for-67) and sizzling the nets to the tune of 92.6 percent (25-for-27) from the line. Huntington also took care of the basketball having committed just ten miscues, tying a season low.

The Foresters had plenty of reason to celebrate as everyone not only got into the game but scored at least four points each. Olivia Raby topped the balanced HU attack with 18 points. The win was also a testament to how well Huntington shared the ball as 22 of their 34 buckets were assisted.

Makayla Clement came off the bench to pour in 14 points, all in the second half, which included going 4-for-5 from long range. Coming off the bench, Ruby Bolon also finished in double figures with ten. Seboe added 11 points having gone a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor which included three long balls. Bailey Kelham rounded out HU’s double digit scoring with 12. She and Teegan Acres shared team-high rebounding honors with six each.

The Crimson Wave (0-8) was paced by Destiny Hughes, Marisa Esquivel and Vanessa Howell who each posted eight points. Esquivel and Hailey Vanderhye pulled down a game-leading seven boards apiece.

Today’s win is the third straight for Huntington as they move to 5-4 overall. HU wraps up a three-game homestand on Saturday by hosting Grace Christian at 1:00 p.m.
