VOLLEYBALL

After taking Mount Vernon to five in the first CL go around, the Forester volleyball team fell to the #23 Cougars in straight sets, 25-18, 25-15, 26-24, Wednesday night at Ariel Arena.

The win for MVNU (26-6, 12-4) wraps up the regular season sweep over HU and keeps them in a two-way tie for second in the league standings with two regular season games to go. Huntington’s record now stands at 16-12 overall which includes a 6-10 league record for seventh in the standings.

It took the guests two sets to get warmed up before taking the Cougars to extra points in the third set. HU was up 24-23 but unfortunately couldn’t polish off their hosts to make for the three-setter. Haley Kruse finished with eight kills for Herber’s crew.

Trevyn Terry was efficient on the night, collecting six kills on 13 swings for a .385 hitting percentage. Maisyn Robrock and Kortney Grimm also logged six kills while Leah Carter finished with seven.

Morgan Robrock added another double double to her resume by tallying 23 assists and 12 digs. Layla Meyer also posted 12 digs. Defensively at the net, Terry and Carter, HU’s middles, each finished with two solo blocks.

“We need to train and develop the skill of finishing a tight set,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “Every match is a battle in this conference, and if we become the team that lives for the moments when the match is on the line, we will be successful.”

HU returns to Platt Arena this weekend to host Bethel on Friday and Grace on Saturday.
