Huntington University standout Addy Wiley continues to build a case that she is undoubtedly one of the nation’s elite runners.

Last weekend the Huntington native finished fifth in the 1500 meters at the 2023 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field with only professional runners finishing ahead of her.

After winning her heat in Thursday’s prelims in 4:09.53, Wiley toed the line again on Saturday and stayed in the lead pack on the way to clocking in at 4:04.25. which proves the sixth-fastest mark on the all-time, all-dates collegiate chart.

Three of the top four finishers, Nikki Hiltz, Cory McGee and Sinclaire Johnson, will represent Team USA at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August. Wiley is the alternate for the World Championships and has been selected to represent Team USA at the 2023 NACAC U23 Championships later this month.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity to race my first senior championships,” said Wiley, “Although I didn’t come away with the result I wanted, the experience I gained will help make me better for every future competition I am a part of. Through this meet I did qualify to represent Team USA at the NACAC U23 Championships and will race the 1500 meters at the end of July.”

The NACAC U23 Championships is a continental track and field athletics event organized by the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association. This year’s meet is set for July 21-23 in San Jose, Costa Rica.

“I couldn’t be happier with how Addy competed and represented HU this past week,” said Coach Austin Roark. “To line up and take fifth place against Olympic medalist, World Championship medalist and some of the best 1500 meter women in the country is an incredible feat.

“I’m excited for Addy to represent Team USA this summer and expect some more great performances.”
