The 2nd-seeded Huntington baseball team ran away with a 12-3 decision over 3rd-seeded Indiana Wesleyan (33-18-1) Friday night at Forest Glen to remain undefeated in the Crossroads League Tournament.

The Foresters, the only team in the tourney without a loss, are now the highest seed remaining as top-seeded Taylor made an early exit this morning after a loss to 5th-seeded Mount Vernon.

Graham Kollen pitched a dandy to limit a Wildcat squad who averages over eight runs per night to just a pair. He tossed the first eight frames, sitting down five batters on strikes while scattering seven hits, two runs and a walk, to up his win total to a league-leading eight on the year.

Kollen’s teammates offered plenty of offense to back up his performance on the bump. After the Wildcats put up one run in their opening at-bat, Sebastian Kuhns quickly changed the course of the game by delivering a grand slam in the home half of the first to give his team a lead that was never really challenged.

It was the first of four homeruns. Matt Wolff crushed not one, but two balls well beyond the left field fence for three runs. Sandwiching Wolff’s two bombs was Jordan Malott’s two-run shot that also easily cleared the left field fence as the long ball accounted for nine of HU’s 12 runs.

Huntington’s other three runs came by way of a Satchell Wilson RBI-double, an Ian McCutcheon RBI-ground out and an IWU error.

Both teams finished with eight hits. What made HU’s return on investment at the plate even that much more profitable was drawing 11 base on balls to IWU’s two.

Tonight’s win sets a new program record for wins in a season with 37. The Foresters (37-14) are back in action tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. to face the winner of the Spring Arbor/Indiana Wesleyan game slated for 11:00 a.m.
