A handful of HU track and field athletes spent the weekend in Iowa for the 113th annual Drake Relays. Making her outdoor debut, freshman Addy Wiley made it a memorable one by breaking the NAIA all-time record in the 1500 meters by clocking in at 4:12.53 which was good for third at the meet against a field of 12 professionals and one other college runner and shattered the HU record by 12 seconds.

A few days prior, Wiley ran the mile unattached at the USATF Road Mile Championships where she posted a third-place finish in 4:31 which proves the third fastest time for a collegiate athlete since 1987.

Destiny Copeland also had several outstanding performances over the weekend. She posted a pair of qualifying marks in long jump (5.87 meters) and triple jump (12.11 meters) having finished second and fourth respectively at the Jim Duncan Track. Her 12.11 meters broke her own HU record.

The Tech transfer followed that up by winning long jump at the  Simpson College’s Kip Janvrin Open with her leap of 5.86 meters. Erica Xayarath also competed in long jump and finished fifth with a mark of 5.70 meters.  Copeland currently ranks #3 among her NAIA peers across the nation in long jump and #5 among her NAIA peers in triple jump.

Competing against mainly NCAA DI and DII sprinters, Zach Collins took third in the 400 meters at the Drake Relays in 48.31. He also doubled up over the weekend by running at the Kip Janvrin Open. He sprinted his way to an A standard in the 200 meters in 21.27. It was good for fourth place. His 100 meter time of 10.68 landed him 11th place.

Dylan Felger was an automatically qualifier in the 400 meter hurdles by making his way around the track in 52.12 for sixth place.

The Foresters compete in the Crossroads League Outdoor Championships in Indianapolis tomorrow and Friday.
