In their final non-conference game of the season, the HU baseball team slipped past Thomas More Tuesday afternoon at Forest Glen 7-4 to improve to 28-11 overall while the Saints drop to 27-17.

Thomas More struck first in the opening frame and then grew their lead to 2-0 in the fourth before Huntington finally got on track in the bottom of the frame when Jaden Deel tripled in a pair of runs for a 2-2 stalemate. The Saints retook the lead in the fifth, but it was short-lived as the hosts plated three runs in their half of the inning to enjoy a permanent lead.

After Bryce Deckman scored on a wild pitch, Jarret Gray delivered a single into right to knock in two runs for a 5-3 HU advantage. Both teams scored in the seventh, HU’s on a fielder’s choice by Deel for this third RBI of the day. And then then just like the fifth, Deckman scored again on a wild pitch in the eighth to put the finishing touches on the win.

Four Foresters accounted for all but one of HU’s nine hits. Deel, Gray, Deckman and Matt Wolff each pounded out a pair of hits with Deel enjoying three RBI and Gray posting two.

Not only did Deckman offer his bats, he also spent the last 2.2 innings on the bump to earn the win having given up just four hits and a walk while fanning one Saint. He was one of six Foresters to spend time on the mound.

Frame and crew are back in action on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. to kick off a critical four-game series with IWU.
