The HU baseball team (23-10, 17-5) extended their win streak over Goshen (7-23, 3-15) to five by sweeping their guests, 5-1, 3-0, Thursday afternoon at Forest Glen.

Joey Butz and Graham Kollen took care of business in the opener from the bump. Between the two, they allowed just one hit with Butz picking up the win. He struck out eight of the 15 batters he faced in his hitless, scoreless five innings of action.

Offensively, three of HU’s five runs were by the way of the long ball. Satchell Wilson clocked one over the center field fence in the third and two frames later Ian McCutcheon cleared the left field fence for a two-run dinger. Matt Wolff and Bryce Deckman accounted for the other two runs with sac flies in the first and seventh frames respectively.

The nightcap saw the Foresters do all their damage in the bottom of the first. It was a picture perfect start with Wilson leading off with a triple and then coming around to score on McCutcheon’s RBI-single. Langston Ginder ripped a double to left center to plate McCutcheon who had stolen second a few pitches earlier. After Ginder swiped third, he then tagged up on Matt Wolff’s sac fly for what proved the game’s final run. It made for an early 3-0 lead that remained a permanent fixture on the scoreboard as Goshen went down quietly.

The Maple Leafs managed just four hits with Tyler Papenbrock and Noah Arbuckle combining for the shutout. Papenbrock tossed the first three frames, striking out five while giving up a hit and four walks, to earn the win. Arbuckle offered four frames of relief, scattering three hits and a walk while sitting down four batters on strikes to claim the save.

HU takes a break from league play on Tuesday to host IUPUC for a single nine at 4:30 p.m.
