INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its annual regional athletes and coaches of the year awards for indoor track and field and among the list of honorees includes Huntington freshman Addy Wiley and assistant coach Josh Neideck.
Wiley was named the Great Lakes Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year. The Huntington native has spent all season re-writing the NAIA record books by clocking all-time bests in four different events and topping the nation in them all: 600 meters (1:29.77), 800 meters (2:02.33), 1500 meters (4:18.84) and mile (4:32.15). She also ranks second nationally in the 1000 meters in 2:49.71.
Wiley made history at the Camel City Invitational by becoming the only collegian to ever win the elite section of the mile. She also recently ran the mile at the 2023 USA Indoor Championships as the only collegiate athlete where she finished fourth in 4:18.84, five spots ahead of her seeding.
Neideck was voted the Great Lakes Region Women’s Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year for his work as the associate head coach at HU where he works primarily with middle- and long-distance athletes. During his short tenure at Huntington, he has coached the Foresters’ distance runners to national qualifying marks in six events.
In addition to overseeing Wiley and her national-leading marks in four events, Abbey Gentz set a Crossroads League Championship record in the 5000 meters and also qualified in the 3000, Emily Tedder qualified in the mile and the DMR team currently holds the third fastest time nationally.
